You CAN Trim Your Waistline and Get Rid of the Fat You Hate....

My definition of a diet is “Just eat less... If that doesn’t work, eat less”. The idea behind any diet, as you know, is to consume fewer calories than you burn every day. The science of it is much easier than the emotional part of it as we all know.

What I say about just eating less is true. Don’t fall for the “diet” food claims. Low-fat products entice people to eat more than they should. That’s because they assume that low-fat food has fewer calories, which isn’t always true. Make sure you read the Nutrition Facts labels on products.
Don’t get less than 6 hours sleep a night. A lack of sleep can cause an increase in a certain hormone, called ghrelin, which tells your brain that you’re hungry. At the same time lack of sleep causes a reduction in leptin, the hormone that signals when you’re full. This dual reaction can sabotage weight-loss efforts.
Portions matter a lot. Studies have shown that larger bowls, packages, and servings can lead you to eat more than what’s appropriate. To eat and drink less, try using smaller plates, bowls and glasses, along with smaller serving dishes and utensils. Take one serving at a time from large packages, and then remove the packages from sight. When dining out, I share my husband’s entrée (who can eat a whole 16 oz. steak anyway?) or I order two appetizers (they’re usually tastier than the meal).
Keep the cupboard bare. Well, I don’t really mean completely bare; just don’t have your cabinets so full that you have to store food outside of them in plain sight, tempting you to reach for it as you pass by... you know what I mean (This actually happens according to marketing studies.) So, trim your shopping list.
